3 Ways To Prevent Burnout

put an end to overwhelm

Being a woman is hard. Typically we’re burning the candle at both ends. We’re experinicing what they call burnout.

We are working hard in our careers, our relationships, our households and often doing all of this while raising children. It can actually be exhausting!

If you’re like most moms, you’ve been putting yourself last and you might have noticed that your health and well being has started to suffer.  Maybe you’re even lacking motivation to work on those projects or business ideas that you wanted to start earlier this year.  Or maybe you’re at the point of exhaustion where you’ve already shut down and feel like there is no point in even trying to do anything like that. Not wonder you feel like you’re burnout.

you are not alone!

Trust me, I know what you’re feeling because I have been there myself. When I was trying to juggle everything on my own…work, kids, spouse, my home based businesses, friends, other family, etc….I never had time for myself and it eventually lead to burnout.  I was so busy taking care of everyone else that I forgot about me.  I learned though that it didn’t have to be that way and the same goes for you.

There’s a saying that goes “You can’t pour from an empty cup. Take care of yourself first.” and I couldn’t agree more.  If you want to inspire others with your actions, get out of burnout, be motivated, etc. than you must realize that it all starts with you.  That’s why it’s so important to take care of yourself.  You’re as deserving as anyone else.

With that in mind, there are three things that you can do, beginning today, to help prevent you from achieving burnout before it starts.

Add in Exercise

Our bodies need movement.  In fact, our bodies crave it.  I’ll be the first to admit that when super busy, this particular task is the first to go.  But knowing how beneficial it is and how good it actually feels to get that heart rate up, I keep at it.  Some days are better than others but any movement counts and I keep that in mind.  Walking, running, swimming, joining a gym or even home based workout programs all work.  Don’t be afraid to experiment and don’t be afraid to include the kids.  I personally use a program that has TONS of at home workout programs so I have a variety to choose from.  I like to do something different each day so it doesn’t seem “boring.”  What’s great is that there are so many options that there is something for everyone at any fitness level.

Get More Sleep

This is another one that often goes to the wayside for many moms and why they feel burnout.

When building my coaching practice, there were MANY nights that I would be up until 1am working on things and then I’d be a walking zombie the next day.  I now make it a point to be in bed by 11pm and aim for 6-8 hours most night. (I’m a work in progress, just like everyone else.)

When I wake up the next day, I feel so much better! Being tired is risky.  In fact, it can be dangerous if you’re not getting good quality sleep.  There were many days on my commute that I was so tired and struggling to keep my eyes open.  Not a good thing at all so keeping track of that sleep was helpful in learning about myself and my body.

Put Yourself First

Take an inventory of your life.  Write it down.  What can you let go of?  What can you delegate?  Where can you fit time in for yourself?   It doesn’t have to be long but sometimes just taking 10 minutes to yourself can be what you need to finish the day strong.  Put it in your calendar (do the same for your fitness) and then stick to your appointment just like you would any other.

I would love to hear back from you and as to how you are.  What healthy tips are you incorporating into your life?  Please share.

With Love,

Laura
